Douro First takes you into the Douro for wine and olive oil tastings, with lunch and an electric boat trip. The day takes eight to nine hours and costs from €175 per adult. Departure is at 8:30 daily with Porto or Gaia pickup; Vila Real collection is also available. The group is capped at seven. You eat at Quintinha except on Sundays, when lunch moves to another venue.

The catch: The 8:30 Sunday departure includes lunch at a different venue, so book another day if Quintinha is the reason to go.

The tasting visit has two hours and lunch has three, with 30 minutes at Galafura and an hour on the boat. You return to your hotel or port after eight to nine hours.

Choose Douro First if Gaia collection matters and you want a group of no more than seven. The boat runs on electric power. Book Monday to Saturday if Quintinha's lunch is central to your choice, since Sunday's meal moves to another venue.

For two family quintas, Oporto & Douro Moments costs from €195 per adult for 5 or more; lunch is extra. If a palace visit matters, North On Wheels costs from €180 per adult; its departures are limited to weekdays.

Means: For Quintinha's lunch, choose the 8:30 tour on a day from Monday to Saturday; Sunday uses another venue.
