Know before you go

How to get there

Porto pickup is included with both Oporto Sensations options. Guests staying outside the city use an alternative meeting point arranged by the operator. Grapes journeys meets opposite Gruta on Rua de Santa Catarina. Give Sommelier Tours or InbicTours your accommodation address when arranging the pickup for your chosen private option.

Douro Valley tours

The lowest InbicTours price needs seven people. Oporto Sensations includes restaurant lunch, while the Sommelier Tours price leaves lunch out. InbicTours' lowest price covers its car and guide service and leaves experiences to arrange separately. The buttons open the booking page; you pay the price shown there.

Small group

Grapes journeys and Oporto Sensations' shared tour each carry up to eight guests, with child prices available. The age bands differ. Grapes journeys serves alcohol only to guests aged 18 and over, although its adult price starts at 17. Enter every child's age before booking; Sommelier Tours has youth prices through age 17 and provides infant seats.

Free cancellation

All five booking options allow free cancellation until 24 hours before departure, with no refund after that deadline. Both Oporto Sensations options need manual acceptance. Grapes journeys and Sommelier Tours accept bookings instantly. InbicTours requires manual acceptance within one day of departure, so a last minute request may need a reply.

Quinta visits and tastings

Wear comfortable shoes for the quinta visits. Keep your mobile ticket ready for the driver. Oporto Sensations provides an umbrella when needed and recommends cash for wine purchases or souvenirs. Bring water if your option does not include it.

When to get there

For September and October, arrange any grape treading separately from the wine tour. Quinta da Roêda requires advance booking. In July and August, wear light clothing for the quinta visits. For a separate winter visit, Roêda closes on 25 December and 1 January.

All questions

Which Douro Valley tours are led by a sommelier?

Grapes journeys' two region tour and the private Sommelier Tours day explicitly include a sommelier. Oporto Sensations Tour uses specialist wine guides on its shared and private days. InbicTours also advertises a sommelier tour, but its car and guide option specifies only a professional guide. Choose by the option you will actually book.

What do you learn on a sommelier-led Douro wine tour?

You learn how wines are made and taste the differences between regions or styles, depending on your tour. Grapes journeys links Vinho Verde tastings with Douro wines and aged port. Oporto Sensations covers production through to bottling. Sommelier Tours includes a stop showing mechanical grape crushing, which suits questions about how production methods differ.

How many wines do you taste with a sommelier in the Douro?

Grapes journeys specifies seven wines at its Vinho Verde quinta and five at its Douro quinta, plus wine with lunch. Sommelier Tours does not give a fixed total. Neither Oporto Sensations option gives a fixed tasting count. InbicTours' car and guide service has no tasting package included.

Are sommelier Douro tours private or shared?

You can book shared or private days. Grapes journeys and Oporto Sensations Tour's shared day each take up to eight people. Sommelier Tours and InbicTours' car and guide service are private. Oporto Sensations' private day gives you your own guide and vehicle, with a shared rabelo trip and other visitors at the quintas.

How much does a Douro Valley tour with a sommelier cost?

Grapes journeys' tour costs from €149 per adult, including lunch and the boat trip. Oporto Sensations' shared day costs from €199 per adult; its private day costs from €335 per adult. Sommelier Tours costs from €365 per adult with lunch extra. InbicTours' car and guide service costs from €58 per person in a group of 7, 7 of you; meals and experiences are extra.

Is a sommelier tour worth it for beginners?

Yes, if you want someone to explain the wines while you taste them. Grapes journeys makes that comparison across two regions, and Oporto Sensations Tour explains production on its shared day. Expect a full day with several tastings. Choose a single quinta visit from the quintas page if you want less travelling or have little interest in wine.
